This remarkable early modern tragicomedy tells the story of Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman accused of witchcraft by the suspicious inhabitants of a rural English village. From demon dogs and cursed Morris dancing to murderous love affairs and mischievous ghosts, The Witch of Edmonton is a folk horror par excellence, revealing the dark underside of England’s green and pleasant land, and challenging the hardened beliefs of its day.
