Within the minimalist confines of the kitchen unfolds the drama of psychological violence – the kind that leaves no bruises, yet erodes identity. Maria does not scream – she uses irony; she does not flee – she reflects. Her world is a Polish everyday: tea, salt, a pork cutlet sizzling in the pan, and an unfulfilled yearning for something more. Kitchen Counterpoints was awarded Prize and a Special Distinction in the 70th National Recitation Contest in the One-Actor Theatre category (adults) in Poland – a proof that the quiet force of a woman’s voice can move, linger, and stay with its audience.
