Odissi is India’s oldest (2nd B.C.E) dance-drama genre of performance art, where the artists and musicians play out a story, a spiritual message or devotional poem from the Hindu texts, using symbolic costumes, body movement, Abhinaya (expressions) and Mudras (gestures and sign language) set out in ancient Sanskrit literature.

The workshop is meant to orient students of dance towards Indian classical dance aesthetics. The workshop is also suitable for those wishing to try out a new vocabulary of technique and story telling.
