Culture Session - Panel Talk, Jam, Workshops (Popping Event)

SHIFT Culture Session

14 + 15 November · Frankfurt

SHIFT Culture Session is a two-day gathering dedicated to Popping, its history, its people, and the exchange between generations.

For this edition, we are bringing together three respected figures from the culture: Steen, Walid and PopNGee. Across two days, they will share their experiences, knowledge and perspectives through performance, conversation, teaching and dance.

DAY 1 — THEATRE, CONVERSATION & JAM

The first day begins with a theatre showing, exploring Popping and its connection to performance and theatrical spaces.

Afterwards, Robozee will host a panel discussion with our guests. Together, they will look at the past, present and future of Popping — sharing personal stories, experiences and perspectives on the development of the culture, its foundations, and what it means to carry knowledge forward.

Following the panel, the space opens up for everyone.

The rest of the evening is dedicated to jamming, cyphering and exchanging with the guests and the wider community. Whether you have been dancing for decades or are just beginning your journey, this is a space to dance, connect, ask questions and share.

The music will be provided by DJs Kyku and Frankfurt Funk, playing an all-Funk selection exclusively from real vinyl. Expect grooves rooted in the sounds that have shaped Popping and Funk Styles, creating an atmosphere for listening, dancing and discovery.

DAY 2 — WORKSHOPS

The second day focuses on learning and passing knowledge forward.

Steen and Walid will each teach a workshop, sharing their individual approaches, experiences and understanding of Popping. The workshops offer participants the opportunity to learn directly from artists who have been deeply involved in the culture for decades.

More than learning steps or techniques, the workshops are an opportunity to understand the ideas, foundations and experiences behind the movement — and to find ways of making that knowledge your own.

A SPACE FOR EXCHANGE

SHIFT Culture Session is about bringing people together.

It is a space to learn from those who came before, exchange with those around you, and contribute to the culture moving forward. Through theatre, conversation, workshops and the cypher, we want to create an environment where different generations and perspectives can meet.

Come to listen. Come to learn. Come to dance.
