“The music is quite surprising and far from what one expects from a vocalist at the early stage of her career, who rather than follow a familiar path of singing Jazz standards, chooses to perform a highly original, inventive thread, which combines modern Jazz and Avant-Garde vistas of Free Improvisation, mixing vocals and vocalese effectively and ambitiously, and as such presenting a solid aesthetic statement, which is a rare phenomenon on today’s vocal Jazz scene.” (Adam Baruch – The Soundtrack Of My Life)
June Yun’s first album, Enlightenment – Solid Waves, pictured the study towards finding the many feelings and thoughts that were lost and couldn’t be described within the fast-moving society we live in. Blending jazz, classical music, Korean traditional music, and her early influence of R&B, Yun has created her own palette and genre. Her compositional process is rooted in meaning, where everything has a purpose and is deeply thought through, and the musicians she plays with are also a special part of it.
The oollim project
With her Berlin-based ensemble, the oollim project, Yun presents mainly original compositions that reflect the themes of community and people that run throughout her music, creating an intimate and immersive musical experience.
