All codes at one glance: what is each feature for?
With Eventfrog’s code features, tickets can be managed in a targeted way: prices can be adjusted, specific ticket categories can be hidden, or individual codes can be printed on tickets. To make things clearer in day‑to‑day use, this article explains Eventfrog’s three code features and when each option makes sense.
As a general rule: not every code does the same thing. Some affect the price, others control the visibility of tickets, or generate individual codes per ticket.

Discount codes & Friendslists – For discounts and personalised invitations
Purpose
Discount codes are used when tickets should remain publicly visible, but a price reduction is granted to specific people or target groups.
How it works
Discount codes apply a reduction either as a percentage or a fixed amount. They can be valid for the entire event or for individual ticket categories. Specific categories, such as VIP tickets, can be excluded from the discount.
Ticket categories with discount codes remain publicly visible and can also be purchased at the regular price without a code. The use of a discount code is only visible in the ticket buyer details.
Friendslist (direct link)
A direct link can be created for each discount code. When the link is opened, the discount is applied automatically. A corresponding notice appears on the event page, optionally enhanced with an individual text and an image.
Typical use cases:
- Discount campaigns
- Social media promotions
- Influencer or friends discounts

Access keys – Protect hidden categories
Purpose
Hide ticket categories for a restricted group of people.
How it works
Ticket categories protected by an access key only appear in the ticket shop after the key has been entered. Without an access key, these categories are completely hidden.
Tickets sold via an access key are shown as a separate category or subcategory in the event invoice.
Typical use cases:
- VIP or crew tickets
- Member or sponsor areas
- Internal presales
Codes on tickets – Individual codes for external systems
Purpose
Assigning an individual code per ticket for external systems or for your own vouchers.
How it works
Each ticket is assigned its own unique code. This code appears on the ticket as well as in the confirmation email and can be linked to a URL. Codes can be generated automatically or imported via a file.
Codes on tickets do not affect the ticket price or the visibility of ticket categories.
