Following the protests in Belarus in 2020, numerous artists have fled the country. With this event, the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) sheds light on their situation. VisiBYlity Project aims to advocate for the Belarusian diaspora through showcasing the perseverance and contributions of Belarusian artists living in exile. This opening features three short documentaries of three Belarusian people in Germany: photographer Ales Piletski, poet Dmitri Strotsev, and linguist Maryna Antaniuk-Prouteau. The pop-up exhibition will also include pieces from the VEHA archive, an independent civil photo archive, as well as works by Uladzimir Hramovich and Olga Yakubouskaya.

Providing a platform for Belarusian artists is vital to preserving their creative freedom, and their culture which has been systematically erased. This event aims to allow them to express themselves freely, engage in diverse cultural dialogues, and raise global awareness of Belarusian struggles. After four years since the protests, their situation has been overlooked. Questions about the support they are receiving and the challenges that remain will be discussed at the artist's talk to gain more understanding of the struggle and perseverance of these artists.

The event will commence on June 20th with a reception at 6:00 PM, offering refreshments. This session will be conducted in German and Belarusian with translation. The film screenings will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by an artist talk at 7:15 PM until the evening's conclusion at 9:30 PM. The closing reception will allow the audience to speak to the participants. The exhibition will be on view until 22nd June.
