Susten Pass Autumn Photography Trip – 12 September 2026

Join us for an inspiring photography workshop at the spectacular Susten Pass, one of Switzerland's most scenic alpine roads. During early autumn, the landscape is transformed by vibrant golden larch forests, crystal-clear mountain lakes, rugged granite peaks and dramatic alpine scenery, making it one of the finest destinations for landscape photography.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, we will explore a carefully selected collection of locations around the Susten Pass, taking advantage of the beautiful autumn colours and changing mountain light. The workshop concludes with a sunset photography session overlooking the impressive Stein Glacier, where the warm evening light creates unforgettable photographic opportunities.

Whether you are new to landscape photography or looking to refine your skills, this workshop combines technical guidance with creative inspiration in one of the Swiss Alps' most breathtaking locations.

What You'll Learn

• Fundamentals of landscape composition and visual storytelling

• Understanding natural light and mountain weather

• Working with foregrounds, reflections and depth

• Advanced techniques including:

  • Focus stacking

  • Exposure blending

  • Perspective blending

  • Time blending

• Planning landscape photography using weather, light and mapping applications

• Optimising camera settings:

  • Aperture

  • Shutter speed

  • ISO

  • Exposure compensation

• Effective use of filters, including:

  • Polarising filters

  • Neutral Density (ND) filters

Throughout the workshop, participants receive personal guidance from an internationally awarded landscape photographer, helping them strengthen both their technical abilities and artistic vision.

Workshop Schedule

12:00 – Welcome and participant introductions

Meet the group and overview of the afternoon.

12:15 – 1:00 PM – Photography briefing

• Camera settings

• Composition

• Colour theory

• Weather and light planning

• Workshop itinerary

1:00 – 5:00 PM – Exploring the Susten Pass

We will visit several carefully selected locations around the pass, photographing:

• Golden larch forests

• Alpine streams and waterfalls

• Mountain lakes

• Dramatic granite peaks

• Intimate woodland scenes

• Expansive alpine landscapes

During the afternoon, participants will receive individual guidance while developing compositions and learning to work creatively with changing mountain conditions.

5:00 – 7:45 PM – Sunset Photography Session

Our evening session takes place overlooking the magnificent Stein Glacier. As the sun sets (approximately 7:44 PM), we will photograph the warm alpine light, dramatic mountain scenery and, weather permitting, the beautiful colours of alpenglow and blue hour.

8:00 PM – End of Workshop

After sunset, we pack our equipment and return to the meeting point.

Travel Information

By Car (Recommended)

Travelling by car is strongly recommended, as it provides the flexibility to remain on location until after sunset and enjoy the finest evening light.

Without a Car

Participants travelling by public transport may return with the workshop leader to the nearest railway station, subject to availability.
