Matthias Bergmann kam 1997 nach seinem Studium in Hilversum nach Köln. Dort leitet er seine eigene Band mit Claudius Valk, Hanno Busch, Hendrik Soll, Cord Heineking und Jens Düppe und veröffentlichte die viel beachteten CDs All the Light und Still Time.Zudem spielt er regelmäßig in Duo Besetzungen und ist als Co-Leader in Projekten mit Raimund Moritz und Paul Heller sowie der Latinjazz Band Tin Tin Deo zu hören. Als gefragter Sideman wirkt er auf inzwischen über 60 Jazz CD Produktionen mit und gastierte auf zahllosen Tourneen u.a. in Indien, Mexiko und China.
