Li Cunxin ist gerade erst elf Jahre alt, als er Anfang der Siebzigerjahre in seinem chinesischen Heimatdorf von Talentsuchern entdeckt und an der Pekinger Ballettakademie aufgenommen wird. Dort entwickelt er sich zu einem herausragenden Tänzer und erhält schon bald die Chance, an einem Austauschprogramm mit den USA teilzunehmen. Eine interkulturelle Achterbahnfahrt beginnt …
